Lesslie
Founder/Operations Director

11 Year Coast Guard Veteran

8 Years of Veteran Advocacy

I remember the first time a Veteran called me and said, “Lesslie, thank you. I just bought groceries and didn’t have to worry about paying my rent.” In that moment, I knew this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

I didn’t know I was eligible for VA services until 15 years after leaving the military. I know there are many Veterans like me, and I wanted to be part of the change our community needs.

Mike generously shared his wisdom and helped lay the foundation for our community’s development. His passing on February 20, 2023, was a profound loss, but his contributions remain at the heart of everything we do. Mike’s unwavering dedication to supporting Veterans was truly inspiring. For him, it was never about the money — it was about ensuring Veterans received the healing they deserved so they could live long, fulfilling lives with their families. We are forever grateful for his love and commitment to VSOP.

As a Veteran who has navigated the process myself, I understand how overwhelming it can be. My passion is to educate and support fellow Veterans as they navigate the complexities of the VA system and access the services available to them.

Watching my husband retire from the military and transition to civilian life made me realize there has to be a better way to navigate this life-changing event. I knew that if I could help make this transition smoother for others, that’s what I wanted to do.

Coast Guard Veteran

Captain's License/MMC

I joined the U.S. Coast Guard because of my love for the ocean, but more importantly, my passion for helping people. After my service, I became a Respiratory Care Practitioner and encountered many Veterans struggling to adjust to everyday life. This led me to VSOP, where I found my purpose in helping educate Veterans and their families about the resources available to them. My goal is to ensure Veterans and their families have access to the support they rightfully deserve.

Veterans Standard Operating Procedure (VSOP) – Educational Services Disclaimer

VSOP is not accredited by the Department of Veterans Affairs and does not act on behalf of Veterans in any official capacity. VSOP is an independent educational service dedicated to providing Veterans with knowledge and guidance on navigating the VA system. We are not a law firm, nor are we owned, controlled, or staffed by attorneys. Any information shared by VSOP is for educational purposes only and does not constitute legal advice.

VSOP provides education based on publicly available information, including but not limited to the Web Automated Reference Material System (WARMS) — the official VA resource for policies, procedures, and regulations. Our goal is to help Veterans understand the VA process, including pre-filing and post-filing steps, and to empower them to manage their own VA journey confidently.

WARMS provides comprehensive access to VA manuals, directives, handbooks, and rating schedules used by the VA when processing claims and determining eligibility for services. Our team uses this system to ensure the education we provide is accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with VA standards. You can explore WARMS directly through the official VA website at benefits.va.gov/warms. Additional resources, including the Code of Federal Regulations and VA compensation guidelines, can also be found at benefits.va.gov/compensation/resources-regulations.asp.

At the request of the client, VSOP may assist in locating independent medical providers and educating Veterans on how to gather supporting medical evidence. However, VSOP does not file VA claims, represent Veterans in any legal capacity, or communicate with the VA on behalf of clients. All responsibility for preparing, filing, and managing VA claims remains solely with the client.

Clients who engage with VSOP do so voluntarily, with full understanding that VSOP is not an accredited VA representative, Veterans Service Organization (VSO), or affiliated with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Veterans seeking free assistance can access a list of accredited Veterans Service Organizations through the VA at va.gov/vso.

By engaging with VSOP’s services, clients acknowledge and agree that they understand VSOP’s role is strictly educational, that VSOP is not an accredited VA representative, and that all claim-related responsibilities rest with the client. VSOP operates independently and is not affiliated with the Department of Veterans Affairs or any other government agency.
